Contractors working for the Georgia Department of Transportation will install daytime lane closures on Ga. 9/S. Main Street/Cumming Highway this weekend as crews continue working to widen and reconstruct the roadway between Upper Hambree Road and Windward Parkway.
Depending on weather conditions, one right lane will be closed on Ga. 9 northbound and one right lane southbound from Upper Hambree Road to Willis Road from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct 23. These closures will help ensure the safety of drivers and workers.
When complete, the 3.6-mile Ga. 9 Widening and Improvements Project will create two lanes in each direction, a raised median, additional turn lanes at key intersections, traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, a multi-use trail, a bicycle lane, on-street parking, lighting, and landscaping.
The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2024.
Drivers should remain cautious, reduce speeds, and watch for workers.
