In the face cyber attacks on governments and businesses across the globe, Fulton County Commission Chairman Robb Pitts and the Fulton County Board of Commissioners are hosting a cybersecurity summit with city, county, and school board leaders invited from across the state, according to a press release.

The summit will be held Oct. 21-22 at Fulton County’s Central Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Atlanta. The two-day summit will be an opportunity for local government and technology leaders to learn more about the cyber climate facing local government agencies, including cities, counties, and school systems. Attendees will hear from leading experts and have an opportunity to network with other leaders.

Key speakers will include Todd Renner of the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency leader Joye Purser. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions and take part in a table top exercise.

“There’s no question our reliance on technology has increased over the last several decades and COVID-19 only quickened the pace,” said Chairman Pitts. “Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that we make sure we’re all protected and ready – not just our own business or government. Our society is so connected that a cyberattack on one of us ends up being an attack on all of us. I believe this summit will make all of us stronger and better prepared for everything that is out there.”

He notes that many governments have been so focused on their COVID-19 response, they may have lost focus on cybersecurity preparedness over the last 18 months. He is calling on his counterparts in cities, counties, and school boards to emphasize their focus on cybersecurity and hopes this summit will help them do so.

Glenn Melendez, Fulton County’s Chief Information Officer, added, “We are truly excited to lead this public-private partnership in the area of cyber innovation. Deep collaboration with local governments and school boards will play a key role in maturing our cyber defenses as we continue to expand digital service offerings.”

Those who attend will have to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test from the previous 72 hours, in order to comply with the event’s COVID-19 safety protocols.
