At the city’s most recent council meeting, the Alpharetta Police Department discussed major adjustments to their training program. The department has added additional training to ensure they are ready to handle any situation may come up.

Specifically, the department is focusing on use of force, de-escalation and defensive tactics. The department notes these areas of policing are the most dangerous, contentious, and scrutinized areas of the profession.

Because the use of realistic scenarios is the best way to reinforce classroom and online training, the department is requesting the city consider a dedicated facility to simulate houses, businesses, schools and other areas where officers might be called on to handle incidents.

The Alpharetta City Council discussed the possibility of public safety using the Crabapple Government Center as their training facility, but further discussion is ahead before any decision is made about a dedicated facility.
