An ethics committee found no wrongdoing after investigating a complaint by Hampton’s mayor against a member of the City Council. Steve Hutchison filed the complaint in late July against Errol Mitchell, alleging violations of the city’s ethics code. The city’s ethics committee investigated the complaint, during which evidence and statements from both sides were considered, after which the five-member panel issued a statement.

“The panel has not identified that any violation has occurred,” it read, adding that Mitchell “acted as any council member should and made his own attempts to correct any errors that may have existed.” The committee also pointed out that the investigation “did not show ill intent.”
