Several zoning ordinance changes received final approval from the Hampton City Council at its Sept. 14 regular meeting. One amendment, spurred by a rezoning application a few months ago to allow a self-service storage facility, will permit that kind of business to operate in a neighborhood commercial zoning district, which was not permitted in the past.
Another will allow medical offices, hospitals, dentists and clinics to do business in commercial zoning districts. This has not been permitted since an 2018 code update, and some non-conforming uses recently came to light when a local medical office required zoning verification to present to a lender for refinancing.
