The Fayette County Board of Education has approved a three-year contract renewal for Superintendent Jonathan Patterson. The unanimous vote at the board’s Oct. 18 regular meeting will extend Patterson’s tenure through Sept. 30, 2024. Board Chair Scott Hollowell said, “We look forward to many more productive years.”

Patterson came to Fayette in August 2020 after serving as Gwinnett County’s associate superintendent of curriculum and instructional support. He replaced former Fayette superintendent Jody Barrow after the latter retired. Patterson’s current contract will pay him $256,800 annually, plus $600 monthly to defray automobile travel related to school business. He will receive a written performance evaluation from the BOE once a year.

The superintendent’s duties include presiding over school board meetings, implementing board policies, serving as a liaison between the school system and the community, and other administrative tasks. Because the superintendent contract has not changed substantially in recent years, board member Randy Hough asked that the document’s language be reviewed more extensively before the next contract renewal.
