The Fayette County Board of Education’s Sept. 27 meeting will maintain social distancing “to mitigate the spread of the [COVID-19] virus.” Seating inside the board chamber at 205 LaFayette Ave. will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis; the meeting begins at 7 p.m. The board is also moving the public comment period closer to the end of the meeting agenda rather than the beginning, although comments pertaining directly to action items will be allowed in succession.

Public comments at the last two monthly meetings have lasted up to three hours. A table for signing up to comment will be outside the entrance between 6:30 and 7 p.m.; each speaker is allowed three minutes. Superintendent Jonathan Patterson said at the board’s Sept. 13 work session that staff would be on hand to make sure that those wishing to comment about agenda items but who could not sit inside would be notified of their opportunity to speak. The meeting will be livestreamed on the board’s website at www.fcboe.org/livestream.
