Not exceeding $584,000, Smyrna city employees are receiving annual staff merit increases and one-time raises for public safety and paramedic personnel.

As of Jan. 1, the merit amount came from the city’s contingency fund by a December 7-0 vote of the Smyrna City Council.

The public safety and paramedic increases were included in the departmental budgets.

Totaling the $584,000, half-year amounts for these increases will not exceed $257,000 for the merit increase; $292,000 for the public safety raise and $35,000 for the paramedic raise.

Applicable Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes are included in these amounts for Social Security and Medicare.
