An executive director has been chosen by a 3-2 vote of the Powder Springs City Council for the city’s new public services, equity and inclusion agency.
He is William Tanks, who held a similar position with Cobb County, where the former Cobb County firefighter has served as the public services agency director since 2018.
Before then, Tanks served with the Cobb County Fire Department for 26 years, retiring as deputy chief.
Opposing his appointment were Councilwomen Nancy Farmer and Patricia Wisdom.
Farmer said she looked forward to working with Tanks should she find there is a need to consult with him regarding this new agency.
Wisdom told Tanks her vote was “nothing personal” - just that “I don’t know you.”
In his new role, Tanks will oversee the city’s parks and recreation, police department, municipal court and communications.
City Manager Pam Conner told Mayor Al Thurman and the City Council that Tanks would receive an annual salary of $110,000.
Tanks holds master’s degrees in business administration and accounting.
