A man was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after being hit by a car on a busy Marietta highway, police said.

The crash shut down all lanes of North Marietta Parkway at Fairground Street before 6 a.m. and resulted in predawn traffic delays, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. A silver Nissan Versa with front-end damage and a shattered windshield could be seen at the scene.

The injured 35-year-old man was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital alert but in serious condition, a Marietta police spokesman said. Authorities said they are unsure if the victim was in a crosswalk or abiding by the pedestrian crossing signal at the time of the wreck.

While the crash remains under investigation, no charges have been filed against the 50-year-old driver.
