A Cobb County police officer was struck by a vehicle Sunday morning while investigating a crash on the I-285 eastbound to I-75 northbound ramp, officials said.

The officer was hit by the vehicle while sitting inside his patrol car on the roadway’s shoulder, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young said. The officer was working a separate crash at the time of the incident.

While exiting I-285 and making the curve to I-75, the driver lost control, Young said.

“That vehicle entered onto the roadway’s shoulder, striking the Cobb County officer’s vehicle,” Young added.

The officer was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cobb authorities are not releasing the officer’s name. The driver who struck the officer was not injured, Young confirmed.

The ramp was closed for a couple of hours while authorities cleaned up debris from the multiple crashes.
