The new fire station on Reinhardt College Parkway in north Canton is in the final stages of construction, with Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services saying it expects to move into the facility in the next few weeks.

The landscaping is in and most of the furniture has been delivered to the new Station No. 9, said Cherokee Fire Division Chief Dean Floyd.

“We are hoping to get the certificate of occupancy sometime this week,” Floyd said on Monday. “If everything goes as planned, we should be in the station sometime around the first of August.”

The station is being built across the street from the present Station No. 9, the former North Canton Volunteer Fire Department building constructed by local volunteers around 1973. That facility was never intended to house full-time firefighters.

The new station will ensure safer living conditions for firefighters and quicker response times to emergencies, officials said. Information: https://bit.ly/3esxTUg
