Six Cherokee Recreation and Parks employees recently earned their
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional credentials, a national standard for all parks and recreation
professionals.
Camille Thomas, athletics coordinator, Jordan Wood, parks division director, Frankie Sanders, recreation
division director, Shawn Schumacher, athletics division director, Kim Whatley, aquatics director, and
Stephen Shrout, parks manager, completed the rigorous program and passed the 125-question exam
that assesses the core knowledge of job-related tasks over the course of this past fall.

Charmi Patel of Atlanta was one of 30 students from around the world who received the doctor of chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC, at the 138th Commencement Program on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Both Monique Tolbert of Douglasville and Melissa Martinez of Marietta earned Master of Education degrees at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska this fall.

Local students Joshua Thruston from Atlanta and Anna Fisher of Palmetto graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania this winter.

Mirage Nepal graduated with a Master of Science degree from Southern Arkansas University at the Fall Commencement ceremony held on Nov. 21.

Joshua Fife, an alumnus of Georgia State University who graduated in 2019, has received the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship.

Aherial Cofield, an Atlanta native, has been named by Aiken Technical College as its SCTEA Educator of the Year in the faculty category.

Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Greg Dozier has appointed Coastal Pines Technical College Provost, Lonnie Roberts as the new President of the college upon the retirement of Glenn Deibert.

The Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council, Georgia’s leading small business development and supplier diversity organization, has selected Vanessa Lane as the new Executive Director for the Georgia Education Foundation, the nonprofit educational arm of GMSDC.

The Northern Ridge Boy Scout District (Cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, John’s Creek, Milton) is proud to announce its newest Eagle Scout, Saaketh Kollipara, of Troop 3143, sponsored by John’s Creek United Methodist Church, whose project was the design and construction of 25 Seating Planks,  for the Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple Atlanta.
