The life and music of soul legend Otis Redding will be celebrated at the Tubman Museum in Macon on Sept. 9 with a special exhibit of one of the area’s native sons.

"The King of Soul: Otis Redding in Photographs," will offer a glimpse into the life of the singer, songwriter and record producer through a series of photographs that date from the mid-1950s through 1967. Redding left a legacy that lives on in his music and through the work of the foundation that bears his name.

Redding would have turned 75 this month.

The exhbit runs through Dec. 3.

The opening reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will also be a live musical tribute to Otis Redding will be performed by Trysha B and Smooth As Honey.

It is being held in partnership with the Otis Redding Foundation. Admission is $5 for non-members on Friday and Saturday and free for Tubman Museum members.

After that weekend, admission ranges from $6 for children to $10 for adults. Discounts are available for seniors, student and military.

The exhibit is part of a weekend of events that celebrate the legacy of Redding

There will also be a musical tribute concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Macon City Auditorium. There will be a "Redding Reunion" featuring Otis Redding III, Dexter Redding and Mark Lockett.

Tickets range from $60 for general admission to $2,300 for the “Big O”VIP concert experience for 10.
