A woman learned that her husband divorced her months after they married 20 years ago and is now trying to hold on to her New York City condo.

Cristina Carta Villa, 59, has been married to Gabriel Villa, 90, for the past 20 years. But, according to The New York Post, she just learned he may have divorced her in the Dominican Republic four months after their wedding ceremony in an "apparent attempt to shield his assets." According to the New York Post, Gabriel told Dominican authorities his wife "was unbearable." He did not file the divorce in New York.

Cristina found out about the divorce in November when she received a tax bill for their Manhattan condo without her name on it. When she hired a lawyer to investigate, she learned of the divorce and that Gabriel had attempted to remove her name from the condo’s deed using the divorce as proof that she was not an owner, the New York Post added.

According to the New York Post, Cristina believes Gabriel is attempting to give the condo to his daughter from another marriage. The one-bedroom condo in Midtown Manhattan is priced at around $1.4 million.
