Where Can I Find It?
Q: I know this isn’t exactly a “Where Can I Find It” item that you usually come across, but I’m about at my wit’s end trying to find someone to repair a statue, and I’m hoping you can help. The parish priest in the my hometown asked me to buy a gorgeous statue of the Virgin Mary from the church because some of the older parishioners didn’t like it. It was made in Rome, and it was pretty contemporary for the day. This was about 35 years ago. A few years ago, our animals knocked it over and it’s in about 100 pieces (it stood 4 feet tall). I would love, love to have it restored. It’s been sitting in a bin in our basement ever since it got broken. I’ve written to art schools, Googled, you name it. I can’t find anyone who can help me. Can you? Thank you so much. — Louise Plagman, Johns Creek
Q: Louise, I love this type of challenge, and I believe I found the ideal solution for the statue that your pets turned into bits and pieces. Visit or call Avery Gallery, 390 Roswell St., Marietta, 770-427-2459. While Avery, which has been in business for 30 years, enjoys a reputation as a fine art gallery, it’s also a bastion of art restoration. In fact, Avery had the contract for 28 years with the city of Atlanta to clean, conserve and restore the Atlanta Cyclorama Diorama. The gentleman I spoke with was confident that your statue could be restored but, naturally, he couldn’t tell me how much time or expense it would take until he saw it for himself. Good luck.
Q: Recently, I saw an article about a company called The Real Dill. It said that one of their best products is caraway garlic dill pickles. They sounded wonderful, so I’ve tried to find them both on their own website and through Amazon. I can find all kinds of products but not these particular dill pickles. I’m hoping that you will have better luck in locating exactly what I’m searching for. Thanks. — Linda Williams, Duluth
A: Linda, I found exactly what you were looking for, but you'll have to order the caraway garlic dill pickles because they're not available locally at this time — unless you find yourself on St. Simons Island. The Real Dill came to be when two pickle-making friends decided to combine their talents in Denver, Colorado. These gorgeous pickles, with plenty of colorful peppers and herbs, are 100 percent natural, and come in a variety of unusual flavors. Along with caraway garlic dills, you can select habanero horseradish dills, jalapeno honey dills, sweet molasses chips and spicy Caribbean spears. The Real Dill also puts out a Bloody Mary mix that starts with fresh cucumber water punched up by horseradish and habanero peppers. You can order 32-ounce jars of The Real Dill caraway garlic dills for $15.50 each through Golden Isles Olive Oils, 306 Redfern Village, St. Simons Island, 912-602-9736, www.goldenislesoliveoil.com.

Q: For years, I’ve been searching for a candy we had as kids. It’s a coconut chew called Long Boys. I’d love to find these, even if I have to order them. I’m not very good on the computer, though, so maybe you could help me find them. Thank you. — W. Porter, Atlanta
A: These nostalgic coconut candies get their name from the stick-like shape, and each chew measures about three inches in length. Long Boys also come in chocolate. You can order the coconut candies by the tub — 130 pieces sell for $14.69.
