Where Can I Find It?
Q: I know that bison meat is less fattening and has less cholesterol than beef products. I’d like to know where I can locate bison hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks to prepare at home — especially the hot dogs. I’ve had some of these at Ted’s Montana Grill and they’re great. Thanks. — Andre Cleveland, email
A: There’s plenty of bison meat to be had in the Atlanta area. Sprouts Farmers Market, 1250 Scenic Highway, Lawrenceville, 678-690-1279, currently stocks pre-packaged portioned sirloin steaks for $8.99 each and 16-ounce packs of ground bison for $10. The butcher at Sprouts is hoping that the store will carry hot dogs soon. Four time a year, Sprouts offers a bison stampede; a whole bison is butchered at the store, and cuts are sold. The first stampede takes place in September. You’ll also find a variety of bison (no hot dogs) at DeKalb Farmers Market, 3000 E. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, 404-377-6400. Whole Foods, 77 W. Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, 404-324-4100, stocks Great Range bison hot dogs for $7.99 per pound. The store also features ground bison and plenty of steaks and roasts.
Q: My office mate and his wife are expecting a baby, a boy, and some of us are putting together a gift box. I want to add a pacifier with a moustache attached. I’ve seen them online, but not in any stores. I would prefer to buy it locally if it’s available. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. — C. Billings, Atlanta
A: You’re in luck because these whimsical pacifiers are, indeed, available locally. I found Chill, Baby Li’l Shaver mustache pacifier, silicone and BPA-free, for $9.93 each at Richard’s Variety store, 2347 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 404-237-1412. Chill, Baby also makes a clever pacifier with a volume knob.
Q: Could you find a place in the Atlanta area where I might purchase Dr. Woods Shea Vision Pure Black soap? I have only been able to find it online. — Elise Mimes, Atlanta
A: This organic liquid soap gets its black tint from roasted plantain skins. It’s touted as a super moisturizer that also combats acne. The soap is used as a shampoo, too. You can purchase 32-ounce bottles for $14.49 each at Harry’s Whole Foods, 1180 Upper Hembree Road, Roswell, 770-664-6300.
Q: I was visiting friends in Palm Coast, Florida, and they served Nettles sausages for breakfast. Delish! It seems they are only available in Florida. When I visit, I bring them back for friends, and extra for my freezer. This has been a while though, and I sure would like to buy them locally. Can you find out if they’re available in the Atlanta area? — M. Williams, email
