Q: Where can I buy Vaseline bar soap? I do a lot of gardening and I heard that this soap will get out just about any dirt without drying out my skin. I don’t mind ordering it if I can do so by phone instead of on the computer. I’m just not sure where to start looking. I appreciate your help. Thank you. — A. Garcia, Gainesville
A: Vaseline soap is made by the German company, Kapus, which owns one of the largest soap factories in Germany. As the name implies, this bar soap contains petrolatum as well as coconut, glycerine and lanolin. It's formulated for extra-dry skin. A set of three bars sells for $12.90 through www.vermontcountrystore.com. You can call the Vermont Country Store, 800-547-7849, to order your soap.
Q: Several years ago, I purchased a nail file made of glass. It proved to work extremely well and I truly enjoyed using it. Unfortunately, during a move, it vanished. I have not found another for sale since. Do you have any suggestion as to where I might find one? Thank you for any directions you might give me. — Nancy Barker, Atlanta
A: Nancy, I’ve been using glass files for ages and wouldn’t consider any other type. They’re gentle on nails and you can easily wash them in soap and water. Plus, it’s easy to sanitize if more than one person is using the file. I’m not sure which size or shape you use, but I found two types, so you can select the one that best suits your needs. First, at Sally Beauty Supply, 2625 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 404-231-4750, you’ll find the 6-inch ASP crystal nail file with flared tips for $4.19. It comes with a protective sleeve. Nail Tek makes a 5-inch glass nail file that comes in a hard fuchsia case. It features rounded tips. Nail Tek is available at Ulta, 1801 Howell Mill Road, 404-355-1326. The file costs $16.50.
Q: I have a lovely vintage jacket that is in excellent condition except for a small hole that I suspect was made by moths since it’s been in the back of the closet for several years. I would like to get it repaired but I can’t find anyone who could do this. Thanks for your help. — Dorothy Perkins, Dunwoody
A: Dorothy, take your jacket to the Williamsburg Shoe Repair and Alterations, 2462 Jett Ferry Road, Atlanta, 770-396-3989. The shop also tailors and reweaves clothing.
Q: While at a friend’s house, I received a piece of coffee candy that’s to die for. My stomach won’t allow me to drink it anymore, yet I love the flavor of coffee. The product I tasted would cost $24 online. It’s espresso candy from Bali’s Best. My friend doesn’t remember where it was bought. Thank you for your help. — Janet Fried, email
A: Janet, I believe what you found online was Bali’s Best assorted coffee candy jar, which holds 300 pieces of espresso, original and latte-flavored coffee treats. It sells for over $25 on Amazon. I found 35-ounce jars of Bali’s Best locally at Office Depot, 5300 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Chamblee, 770-452-0187. A jar holding 300 pieces of individually wrapped, coffee-flavored candies costs $10.99.
