Southbound now open for dinner
After nearly a month of serving only weekday lunch, Southbound, the new Chamblee restaurant from Dennis Lange and Mike Plummer, is now serving dinner Mondays-Saturdays. Former Watershed sous chef Ryan Smith is in the kitchen. Yalla and Xocolatl at Krog Street
Krog Street Market made it official last week. Chef Todd Ginsberg will open a contemporary Middle Eastern restaurant with his General Muir partners. Yalla, which means "let's go," will join their previously announced sandwich shop, Fred's Meat & Bread. Also announced, Xocolatl, a "micro chocolate factory" from owners Elaine Read and Matt Weyandt. Look for handcrafted, hand wrapped artisanal chocolate bars and a tasting bar where visitors may watch the chocolate making and packaging process. krogstreetmarket.com.
Garnish & Gather chef series
Last June, Atlanta entrepreneur Emily Golub started Garnish & Gather, a concept that offers ready-to-cook meals for pickup or delivery for around $15 per serving, with ingredients grown in and around Atlanta, and an emphasis on organic and small family farm produce. Recently, G&G kicked off its new "Be The Chef" series, featuring recipes from local chefs such as Kevin Gillespie of Gunshow, who came up with a recipe for pan-seared shrimp with summer vegetables and creamy grits. Red White & Brew July 4th
Celebrate July 4th with food and drink at the annual fund raising event for Georgia Aquarium. Red White & Brew in the Oceans Ballroom features a sampling of local beer, a buffet from Wolfgang Puck Catering, live music, and a trip to the top of the Aquarium's parking deck for a view of the Centennial Olympic Park fireworks show.
