Every October, we turn pink. From ribbons and lights to the pads adorning goal posts at NFL games, we are awash in breast cancer’s signature color.
So, why not a splash of pink while enjoying afternoon tea?
A handful of Atlanta area destinations are serving pretty in pink afternoon teas featuring French macarons, homemade pink marshmallows, pink-ribbon cupcakes, rose-colored champagne and, of course, a wide array of berry teas. Even the cloth napkins are bright pink.
The Concourse Athletic Club near the “king” and “queen” buildings recently held a Tea with the Queen, catered to the little ones. The tea served was actually pink lemonade, served by a princess.
At the St. Regis in Atlanta and the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead, a portion of the sales of this month’s pink teas go to cancer charities.
Last month, Valinda Voight and her grown daughter, Heather, enjoyed a Ferragamo-shoe inspired tea at the St. Regis.
A new mother-and-daughter tradition, Voight plans to return to the St. Regis for the pink tea.
“I wasn’t planning on going back so soon, but I think it’s a wonderful thing to do,” said Voight, who lives in Roswell. “It’s something I want to be a part of.”
I recently enjoyed afternoon tea at the St. Regis with my 9-year-old daughter, Abby. She wore a fancy red dress and went to bed with braids in her hair to make her hair “wavy” for our special mother-daughter outing.
Still, as she and I nibbled on everything pink on glass plates resting on a silver tower, she couldn’t help but remark, “This is even fancier than I imagined.” She suggested we make it a new tradition, and I thought the pink one was a great way to start the ritual of going for tea.
