Georgia Marathon information

March 24, 2011

The fifth Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon begins at 7 a.m. Sunday at Centennial Olympic Park. The field includes entrants from all 50 states and 30 countries and runners as old as 82. The Weather Channel forecasts good running conditions -- partly cloudy and temperatures in the high 50s. Participants, supporters and others should be aware of road closures, particularly downtown, although the race goes through Midtown, Sweet Auburn, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills and Piedmont Park. Segments of many heavily used streets, such as Piedmont, Ponce de Leon, North Highland and North avenues, as well as Peachtree Street and Briarcliff Road, will be impacted at times. MARTA rail service will begin at 5:15 a.m. Sunday. For more information, go to georgiamarathon.com.
