A Florida man was trying to do what he thought was the right thing when he saw a dog tied to the bumper of an SUV at a grocery store.

Van DeMars, who just happens to be the president of the local SPCA chapter, recorded video of the dog trying to find a cool spot in the middle of the hot Florida sun.

Worried about the dog's health, the man cut the dog's leash and took the animal to cooler air and a shady area.

The dog's elderly owner wasn't happy.  The dog rescuer said the man said there was nothing wrong tying the dog out and that he did it all of the time.

Fast forward a couple of days and the SPCA president was the person arrested for not returning the property -- the property being the dog to its owner.
