You know you have to get those kids going in the morning and that a smooth mug of joe or a hot cup of tea can really set you on the right path. The iCoffee Opus offers moms and dads the opportunity to start their day off strong and to use any variety of K-cups in the Opus’ single serve brewing system.

This cross-compatible feature is one characteristic that sets the Opus, by Remington, apart. All of the different K-cup brands can be used — including Cinnabon, Dunkin’ Donuts, Peet’s, Tully’s and many, many more — meaning there is no manufacturer lock-in. Set up for this system is easy from the start. Just fill the 75-ounce reservoir on the side with water, hit the brew button, and once the panel reads ‘ready’ and the water is heated, select the desired number of ounces. Users can choose from 4 to 12 ounces in .05-ounce increments. Pop the K-cup in or fill the Reusable iCup that comes with the product with your own coffee grounds. Wait for about a minute and — voila — your hot drink is ready to enjoy.

Some of the best features of this system are the Opus’ SpinBrew Technology, which uses a patented spinning needle with jets that spin, steam and stir inside the K-cup for a mini, French-press effect, and creates a robust cup of tea or coffee. The bottom tray also can be removed to make room for a travel mug and the product is BPA-free, a plus in any mom’s book. The product also comes with six starter coffee pods, and instructions for making iced coffee.

While this particular model took up more countertop space than I would have liked, there are other models available, like the Express and Picasso, that are smaller in size. The iCoffee Opus, available online for $119.99 through Bed, Bath & Beyond, comes with a one-year warranty.
