It was a special birthday for the woman known on social media as “Miss Norma.”
Just two days after Norma’s husband of 67 years died, Norma learned she had uterine cancer. The doctor explained the treatment options to Norma and her family, and then asked Norma what she wanted to do.
“I’m 90 years old, I’m hitting the road,” Norma declared.
And so she did. Norma, her son, daughter-in-law and dog are touring the country in an RV, taking Norma on the trip of a lifetime.
Thursday was Norma’s 91st birthday, and she celebrated the occasion in Marietta, Georgia. Norma was presented with a giant birthday biscuit and a custom-designed birthday cake. She took photos with Atlanta Hawks cheerleaders and the local fire department.
Norma also got to ride in a snazzy 1955 Chevrolet.
The family posted photos of the festivities on its Driving Miss Norma Facebook page. The family wrote: “When we let go of expectations and go with the flow, amazing things happen for us. Today southern hospitality continued to overwhelm us as Miss Norma celebrated her birthday in downtown Marietta, Georgia.”
