In an emotional interview with NBC Nightly News, Steven Ensminger Jr. remembered his late wife, Carley McCord, as a special and caring person.
McCord, a sports reporter in New Orleans, was among those who died last week in a Peach Bowl-bound flight.
"Words can't describe the kind of person she is. There's so many, I can't even begin to tell you how much of a special person she was," Ensminger said in the interview. "How much she cared about other people, how much she wanted me to care about other people."
Ensminger’s father, Steven Ensminger Sr., is the offensive coordinator for Louisiana State University. The Tigers beat the Oklahoma Sooners in the Dec. 28 game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
On NBC, the younger Ensminger said he felt like McCord was looking down on the coach, who was visibly emotional during Saturday’s game.
"I could see Carley telling him, ‘go coach, get out there. Because she loved him, they would bicker back and forth. I could see her just being with him,” McCord’s husband told NBC.
McCord, 30, was among five killed in last Saturday’s crash, when a small plane went down after leaving Lafayette Regional Airport.
Over the weekend, social media quickly filled with posts remembering McCord, who worked at WDSU in New Orleans.
"It is with broken hearts that we share that WDSU lost a beloved member of our team today. Our hearts are with the McCord and Ensminger families at this time," the TV station said in a tweet.
In the TV interview, an emotional Ensminger said his wife was “the most caring person.”
"She was the greatest. And that’s why it didn’t take me long to propose," Ensminger said. "I knew it, I loved her. I’ll always love her."
The full interview will air at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 on NBC Nightly News.
