Groups representing people in the film, television and entertainment business have established a Hurricane Relief Fund to provide financial support for members affected by Harvey and Irma.
The two hurricanes, which made landfall just weeks apart, left thousands without basic needs and many lost their homes or couldn’t go to work in Houston, Florida and Georgia.
SAG-AFTRA Foundation donated $200,000 to relief fund and SAG-AFTRA MPPWF matched the contribution for a total initial assistance pool of $400,000. The organizations are asking the entire 160,000 SAG-AFTRA membership for additional contributions and donations to the emergency relief fund.
The Actors Fund has partnered with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and SAG-AFTRA MPPWF to provide social services and coordinate the grant reviews and approval process.
Georgia is a big player in those industries.
A record $2.7 billion was spent in Georgia by film and television production companies during the 2017 fiscal year.
Projects filmed here include “The Walking Dead,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”
Savannah and Atlanta, in particular, are top spots for filmmakers. Savannah experienced some flooding and uprooted trees.

The Actors Fund will also assess each applicant’s need for additional assistance, programs or services.
SAG-AFTRA members are eligible to apply for the Hurricane Relief Fund if they are currently active and paid their dues through April 30, 2017, and have been affected by either Harvey or Irma.
