Interior designer LaMont Bynum’s custom-built ranch home reflects his past, present and future.
Accessories such as a mini ladder in his bedroom and vintage suitcases in the living room were handed down by family members, including his grandfather and great aunt. Dining room chairs and his bed are his own creations, reflecting his present work with Miller Bynum Design and as owner of Rite at Home, a furniture boutique in Cascade.
Bynum, who moved from Virginia to Atlanta, believes the home’s setting on 2 ½ acres in southwest Atlanta represents his future with the potential to expand professionally.

Resident: LaMont Bynum, partner in Miller Bynum Design (with Milton Miller) and Rite at Home, a consignment furniture boutique in the Cascade area
Location: southwest Atlanta
Size: About 3,400 square feet, four bedrooms, three and a half baths
Year built: 2008
Year bought: 2008
Architectural style: craftsman
Favorite architectural feature: The wall of windows in the family room, which has 14-foot ceilings and the feel of a rotunda. "The wall of windows gives the natural light that's needed. It allows me to enjoy the outside and welcome nature inside of my home," said Bynum, who has seen deer, coyotes, foxes and wild turkeys on his property.
Interior design style: transitional
Favorite interior design feature: The crown molding, which creates a focal point over the fireplace in the living room and is placed throughout the home. Bynum said the crown molding adds detail to the home without being too gaudy.
Favorite outdoor feature: The stone and Hardiplank siding on the exterior. "I like craftsman because it is very organic and natural looking," he said.
Design tip: "Tap into who you are. Decorate your home for who you are and decorate it for yourself."
