Robin Schlinger started a business writing resumes a few years ago, but her one-bedroom, one-bath condo in Midtown lacked space for a home office.
“I was in a situation where I was able to buy a two-bedroom versus a one-bedroom,” said Schlinger, 59, who owns Robin’s Resumes. “I outgrew the unit.”
She enjoyed living in the Spire building on Peachtree Street and didn’t see any reason to stray far from the area, where she found 25 condo and loft complexes with prices from $154,900-$385,000. Working with Robert Sanders of Keller Williams Atlanta Midtown, Schlinger focused on finding a two-bedroom condo in a building with a business center or conference/board room space that would be available for client meetings.
No. 1
Close to Piedmont Park
A two-bedroom, two-bath loft in the aptly named Lofts at the Park complex on Piedmont Avenue in Atlanta offered features such as exposed pipes, hardwood floors, stone countertops and an island with bar seating. French doors opened to a patio. Although the complex was near Piedmont Park, it lacked some of the amenities she was seeking, including meeting space outside of her unit. The condo, built in 2001, was listed for $349,900.

End unit with pool views
A two-bedroom, two-bath condo in Brookwood Place, on Peachtree Street in Atlanta, was outfitted with granite countertops and a gas cooktop in the kitchen. Architectural elements included archway openings in the condo. The covered porch overlooked the pool in Brookwood Place, which also had a 24-hour concierge, gym and a club room, where she possibly could meet with clients. She was concerned about some of the noise she heard from nearby Interstate 85, though. The condo, built in 2000, was listed for $279,900.
No. 3
Smelly spot
A two-bedroom, two-bath condo in Viewpoint boasted two balconies looking onto Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta. It also had a built-in storage unit and a private entrance from the garage that offered the accessibility she desired. When Schlinger walked in, she was shocked by how bad it smelled. “You walked in there and you gagged,” she said. The renter also had caused slight damage, such as a broken window shade, that she figured would require cosmetic repairs. The condo, built in 2008 and with amenities including a conference room, was listed for $338,000.
The Choice
No. 3. She only put an offer on the Viewpoint condo, which her research showed had the lowest price per square foot in the complex. She closed on the unit in August 2014. One of the best parts of the purchase is that she only moved across the street from her condo in Spire, which she sold in March 2015. “I no longer feel like I’m cramped,” she said. “It really did satisfy all of my needs.”
