A Muslim business owner spread holiday cheer by giving out toys to local children on Christmas.
Mustafa Hussein, owner of Cornell Meat King Supermarket in Dayton, said he shared the Christmas gifts in effort of community outreach, to show residents how much he cares and that people should not be afraid of Muslims.
“We’re trying to show everybody that most Muslim people are good,” said Hussein, who has owned the business for almost three years. “This is my first time doing this... It’s a poor neighborhood and I’m trying to make the kids happy — whatever cost it costs — (I'm) just showing support to the community.”
Santa Claus was at Hussein’s store starting at 9:30 a.m. Friday to spread goodwill and pass out wrapped presents to neighborhood kids.
Frequent customer and neighborhood resident Rodney Johnson said the Christmas celebration is not the only way the shop owner shows his generosity.
“It’s just a great place to come and shop,” said Johnson. "Because sometimes when I don’t have (cash) the owner gives me credit so I can come back at a later date and pay him when I have the funds to pay.”
