Tyler Perry is one of Atlanta’s favorite celebrities. He wasn’t born here, (which makes him a typical Atlantan) but the ATL is his home now. He and his character Madea are both big stars, he makes movies here and soon he’ll have a brand new movie studio on the grounds of the now-decommissioned Fort McPherson. He’s handsome and he’s got a lot of bucks, $400 million of them according to Blackberg TV.

We can all agree that’s plenty of dough, and it lands him on Blackberg’s list of the 25 or so wealthiest black Americans. But it’s not quite enough to get into the rarefied air of Blackberg’s top ten. Currently Perry’s number 13, one of those rare cases of a lucky 13, so give him some time and maybe he’ll move up the list. Do it for Atlanta, Tyler!

So, who’s in the top ten, and do any of them live in Atlanta, and are they single? These are the most important questions whenever one considers lists of the wealthy, right? There are entertainers on the list, sure. In fact, number ten is an entertainer married to another entertainer whom we’ll call number seven. Perhaps entertainer isn’t the best choice of words for this couple, they are maybe more like a merged company.

But, you can be fabulously wealthy just by being a good businessman, and there is one such person in the top ten. He’d be a lot richer if he hadn’t gotten divorced but such is life. The rest of the list is folks who at least initially got rich through sports or entertainment and who obviously know how to manage and grow their money. Sorry, though, no Atlantans.
