Indiana Gov. Mike Pence plans to declare a public health emergency Thursday for a county that has seen a recent spike in HIV cases, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Since December, 72 HIV cases have been reported in five counties. Most of those cases came from Scott County, according to the newspaper.
Officials say most of the cases are tied to intravenous use of the prescription drug Opana.
Pence, a Republican, said he does not "support needle exchanges as anti-drug policy, but this is a public health emergency." Read the full report here.
