Nearly 400 Aspen Dental practices around the nation, including a dozen in metro Atlanta, will offer free dental care for veterans on June 25.

The program is part of the Healthy Mouth Movement, an initiative launched in 2014 by Aspen Dental and Oral Health America to deliver free dental care and oral health education to people in need.

Veterans can call 1-844-277-3646 to schedule an appointment at a participating office in the metro area. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Services will primarily cover fillings, cleanings and extractions.

Good dental care is not just cosmetic.

Poor oral care can lead to gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss and infection. Periodontal disease has also been tied to health problems such as diabetes complications, respiratory issues and heart complications.
