A tall glass of iced tea on a hot summer day can be refreshing, but as they say, too much of a good thing, can send you to the hospital.

An Arkansas man found that out the hard way after his 16-glass iced tea habit sent the man, who is not being identified, into kidney failure, The Associated Press reports.

The 16 glasses equaled a gallon of ice tea a day.

Doctors at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock told the New England Journal of Medicine that the man went to the hospital last May with nausea, weakness, fatigue and aches.  Doctors found his kidneys were clogged by a chemical found in black tea called oxalate.

The case is unusual AP reported, since the man drank three to 10 times more oxalate than the U.S. average daily recommendations.
