SANDY SPRINGS

"By Wheel and By Wing" at Act 3 Playhouse

Just a few performances of this original musical created and performed by teens remain. It tells the story of a family who faced, escaped and persevered through the Holocaust and World War II. It's set in June 1941 in the Polish/Ukrainian border town of Skalat. "By Wheel and By Wing" is based on the true story of a group of 10 members of the Parnes family and how they eluded concentration camps and traveled eastward ahead of the invading Nazis. The cast actually met members of the Parnes clan, who provided additional inspiration. Although "By Wheel and By Wing" focuses on sensitive themes, it's suitable for family audiences.

8 p.m. July 6; 2 and 8 p.m. July 7. $23; $15 students and seniors. Act 3 Playhouse, 6385-R Roswell Road, Sandy Springs. 770-241-1905, www.act3productions.org.

MARIETTA

"Mo' Motown" at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre

They'll likely be dancing in the streets, at least figuratively, as this musical revue returns to the Strand stage. Last year's sold-out "A Salute to Motown" performance proved so popular the venue is bringing it back with some additional music and surprises. Earl Reece directs the production, which revisits Motor City classics from Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Michael Jackson and others. It's a showcase of the songs that helped make Barry Gordy's label a household name.

7 p.m. July 4; 8 p.m. July 5-7; 3 p.m. July 8. $20. Earl Smith Strand Theatre, 117 N. Park Square, Marietta. 770-293-0080, www.earlsmithstrand.org.
