Those searching for an educational and interactive way to celebrate Arbor Day should look no further than Lilburn in April.

A free guided tour led by a certified arborist with the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) will educate guests about the native trees in the local community. Susan Granbery and Dale Higdon, both certified arborists, have volunteered for the event.

"Celebrate National Arbor Day by joining us as we take a walk through Lilburn City Park and Camp Creek Greenway!" read the Facebook event description.

Following the tree walk, in which attendees are encouraged to bring a drink and a brown bag lunch, guests will gather in the Gartrell Nash Pavilion to ask questions and engage in activities.

The walk is a rain or shine event, so guests should wear rain boots and bring an umbrella along with them. Should severe weather occur, the event will move to The Preston meeting room at Lilburn City Hall-Library on 340 Main Street.

In addition to the certified arborists who will educate guests on the plants around them, Lilburn Ladybugs and conservation specialist Susan Meyers will also have a hand in the event.

Although the city of Lilburn hosts the tree walk, it likely couldn’t happen without the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Created by state legislature in 1949 to replace the Department of Forestry, the GFC is a state agency focused on providing leadership and education about conserving and protecting the state’s forests.
