High school sweethearts from Texas who were married for 74 years couldn’t bear life apart.

On Oct. 27, Leonard Cherry, 95, died at 1 p.m., and his wife, Hazel Cherry, 93, died 10 hours later, according to KWTX.

The couple’s son, David Cherry, 72, told KWTX that, "I feel blessed that Daddy's suffering is over and I feel blessed that Mom is with him and that she didn't have to live alone."

The couple married in 1942. Leonard Cherry served in the Army during World War II. While his health had declined in recent years, Hazel Cherry was living independently and driving around town as recently as two weeks before her death.

David Cherry said his parents had the “quintessential love story” and that neither would have wanted to live without the other.
