“I want that job! I think it’d be lots of fun,” Whoopi Goldberg declared on “The View” on Tuesday.
“That job” is hosting “Wheel of Fortune” once Pat Sajak retires after the game show’s 41st season, which begins in September.
“Jeopardy” host Ken Jennings was on “The View” on Tuesday when he was asked during a panel discussion about Sajak leaving.
“What’s your reaction to the news? And any ideas on who should replace him?” Alyssa Farah Griffin asked him.
Before Jennings could answer, however, Goldberg threw her hat in the ring. “I want that job! I think it’d be lots of fun,” the actress and comedian chimed in.
It wouldn’t be her first time on a game show, but she’s usually on the other side of the desk. From 1998 to 2004, for example, she was as the center square on “Hollywood Squares.”
Co-host Joy Behar joked she could take over for Vanna White — “as long as she and Sara Haines could take ‘turns walking back and forth, pointing to the letters,’” People magazine reported.
Sajak announced his retirement via Twitter on Monday.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)” the longtime host posted.
Sajak will continue to serve as a behind-the-scenes consultant for the next three years, Suzanne Prete, the executive vice president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, told People in a statement.
Numerous reports have Sajak passing the hosting baton to Dunwoody native Ryan Seacrest.
“Some sources say he’s the frontrunner. Others say he is just one of many interested,” Bloomberg reporter Lucas Shaw tweeted Monday.
