WarnerMedia committed earlier this year to release all its theater movies simultaneously on HBO Max due to the pandemic. This Friday, the latest is “King Richard” starring Will Smith as Richard Williams, who helped turn his two daughters Venus and Serena into global tennis superstars.
Speaking of the pandemic, the first series that became buzzworthy after it all began last year was the Netflix docuseries “Tiger King.” Its crazy popularity has led to a second season out Wednesday.
HBO has two major music events this week: a controversial documentary about Alanis Morissette on Thursday, “Jagged,” which Morissette has denounced after originally agreeing to appear in it. On Saturday, HBO airs the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, as it does every year.
The biggest Amazon Prime release of the week is “The Wheel of Time,” a big-budget “Game of Thrones”-style fantasy series starring Rosamund Pike and a sprawling cast.
Two major series finish their seasons: OWN’s “Queen Sugar” Tuesday and Apple TV+’s “Morning Show” Friday.
Nicolas Cage stars in a “straight-to-video” film that AMC+ and Shudder are debuting Thursday called “Prisoners of the Ghostland,” where Cage plays a ruthless bank robber sprung from jail by wealthy warlord The Governor, whose adopted granddaughter Bernice has gone missing.
Peacock on Thursday is releasing a third film featuring the characters from the old USA series “Psych.” Netflix on Tuesday releases a new Michael Che comedy special and ESPN+ on the same day debuts a docuseries featuring Tom Brady.
Three veteran shows are returning this week: TLC’s “7 Little Johnstons” (10th season), the CW’s “Flash” (eighth season) and the CW’s “Riverdale” (sixth season). Others coming back are Paramount+’s “Star Trek: Discovery” and Starz’s “Ghost Book II.”

“Man in the Arena: Tom Brady” 3:01 a.m. ESPN+ (new series) — After 21 seasons in the NFL, Tom Brady will share a personal firsthand account of his 10 Super Bowl appearances.
“Michael Che: Shame the Devil” 3:01 a.m. Netflix — Che returns to the stage in Oakland and tackles American patriotism, Black leadership, jealous exes, loose bears, mental health and more.
“7 Little Johnstons” 8 p.m. TLC (10th season debut) — The Johnstons have a lot to celebrate between Mother’s Day, Liz and Brice’s second anniversary, and Anna finally moving out on her own.
“The Flash” 8 p.m. the CW (8th season debut) — When a powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances, Barry, Iris and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world.
