A group of performers led by Decatur natives the Indigo Girls raised $50,000 for a local charity at the popular Amplify Decatur two-day outdoor festival.

Amplify Decatur announced the gift this week. The musicians included John Paul White, Shawn Mullins, Rodney Crowell, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Cactus Blossoms and Michelle Malone.

The concerts were staged Oct. 1-2 on the square in Decatur to support Decatur Cooperative Ministry, a local organization created to resolve homelessness. The gift is the largest in Amplify Decatur’s history.

Founded in 1969, Decatur Cooperative Ministry offers transitional housing, shelter and homelessness prevention.

The two-day concert is coordinated by Decatur-based non- profit Amplify My Community, which was formed in 2010 and hosts fundraising concerts for nonprofits all over the South.

The Oct. 1-2 festival was presented by Lenz and produced in partnership with Eddie’s Attic.

The 2022 Amplify Decatur Music Festival will be held Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. Performers will be announced later this year.
