Alpharetta
House on Horror Hill | Oct. 22-24 (Thursday, 7-11 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m. to midnight)

The longest-running haunted house in Georgia is open and considered a favorite Halloween tradition in the Roswell/Alpharetta community. Run by all volunteers, it displays self-built rooms and original skits. The 34th annual House on Horror Hill will remain open through the Oct. 31.

Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra | Oct. 23, 7 p.m.
Avalon, 2200 Avalon Blvd., Alpharetta 30009
The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra, a free-membership, community ensemble open to all instrumentalists with a minimum of high school playing experience, will perform at Avalon. The AlpharettaSO collaborates with local artists and performs chamber and orchestral literature.

More than 40 of Atlanta's restaurants are participating in the annual foodie event with live cooking demos by star chefs and live music. Participating restaurants include Kevin Rathbun Steak, Antico Pizza, The General Muir, Shake Shack, Davio's, Gu's Dumplings, Local Three, Heirloom Market BBQ, Oak Steakhouse and Sprinkles. Music by Atlanta Rhythm Section and The Georgia Satellites.

It's B.Y.O.P. (bring your own pumpkin), and carving kits and painting supplies will be provided for the afternoon of pumpkin decorating, pumpkin bowling, storytelling and more. It's the first year for the event presented by the Crabapple Community Association and the City of Milton.

The Atlanta Wind Symphony's "Child's Play" performance will feature musical pieces such as "Gandalf" from "The Lord of the Rings" by Johan de Meij, "Children's March" by Percy Grainger, "A Day at the Zoo" by James Curnow and "October" by Eric Whitacre.

Halloween Hikes | Oct. 23 and 24, 7 p.m.
Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell 30075
If you are looking for a non-scary nighttime activity, the 30th annual Halloween Hikes event has a family-friendly focus. The night hikes (with groups of 20 to 25 people) are led by a guides on a lighted nature trail. No ghouls will pop out on the hike, and nature-costumed characters, such as the Box Turtle and the Water Drop, will greet visitors at the event. Other kid-approved activities include face painting, arts and crafts, games and musical entertainment. Kids who dress up in costumes receive a special treat.
