BBC Earth’s “Wild Africa,” a nature film, will be shown at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s Imax Theatre from Jan. 8-May 19. Here, an African elephant reaches down to the ground, in search of a life-giving water that is so precious in the dry season. In Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, on the edge on the Kalahari desert, the dry season is intense and can last up to seven whole months. Elephants resort to digging down in particular places to the water table, where water seeps through into small pools — and family herds are reliant on their matriarch to delve into her memory to recall where exactly these ancient water sources are among the dry, scorched plains.
