It’s one of America’s “20 Most Charming Beach Towns,” say those tough-to-please types at Town & Country magazine. And one of the Top 10 “Happiest Seaside Towns” according to (let’s face it) the experts at Coastal Living.
Now tell us Georgians something we don't already know about Tybee Island!
OK, how about this:
What would it be like to actually get to live on that quaint-meets-quirky island located just 20 minutes from downtown Savannah?
There's a chance to find out, sort of, on May 14. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Tybee Island Tour of Homes will give visitors an up-close peek at eight of the island's most handsome and/or intriguing residences.
Sadly, unless you've just won the Powerball jackpot, you probably won't leave with your name on a home ownership deed. But the $35 ticket price does include lunch served at the Tybee Island Maritime Academy charter school. Tour proceeds will benefit the school.
Plus there's lots of other things to do on Tybee, which boasts five miles of beaches, a fishing pier, a lighthouse and Fort Pulaski National Park, where a major turning point of the Civil War played out.
No wonder they’re so darned happy down there.
For tickets and additional information, including photos of homes on the tour, go to tybeetourofhomes.com. Tickets are also available for purchase on Tybee at Chu's Department Store, Saints and Shamrocks and Seaside Sisters.
