Hit the road Atlanta: Best fall runs around the metro

Moments from the 50th running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race

With its crisp morning air and mild midday temperatures, you'll always find the perfect running weather during the fall season around Atlanta. Whether you're an experienced racer or just a beginner, there's a little something for everyone at these top fall foot races, including fun runs, 5Ks and half marathons. You'll even find a few costume-friendly races the whole family will enjoy.

Fall Fest 5K and Fun Run. 10 a.m. Oct. 5. $10-$28 per racer. Candler Park. 1561 McLendon Ave. NE, Atlanta. www.fallfest.candlerpark.org.

The Annual Candler Park Fall Fest 5K and Fun Run takes place in early October with a scenic race throughout Freedom Park and the Candler Park neighborhood. All 5K finishers will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a free beverage ticket to use at the Candler Park Fall Fest following the race. Proceeds will benefit the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization.

2019 PNC Atlanta 10 Miler and 5K. 7:15 a.m. Oct. 20. $35-$65 per racer. Atlantic Station. 1380 Atlantic Drive NW, Atlanta. 404-231-9064. www.atlantatrackclub.org.

Atlantic Station will host this year's PNC Atlanta 10 Miler and 5K and will stand as the start and finish line of both races. All finishers will receive a medal and race swag at the finish line and can shop and eat at one of the many renowned locations in Atlantic Station after the race.

Outbreak Zombie Run at Clayton State University

Everyone loved the Outbreak Zombie Run so much it's back for another year to scare and terrify you all the way to the finish line. In support of Domestic Violence Awareness month, participants can choose to race, scare or volunteer, and this year's event will feature optional obstacles and zombie bubble guns. Participants will receive a t-shirt, wrist bands, race swag and more.

The Atlanta Halloween Half Marathon and 5K. 8 a.m. Oct. 27. $35-$85 per racer. Charles Allen Drive at Piedmont Park, Atlanta. www.halloweenhalfmarathon.com.

The Atlanta Halloween Half Marathon and 5K started in 2009 and soon became one of the most beloved fall races in Georgia. Wearing your favorite Halloween costume, you'll travel through Piedmont Park and around the streets of Atlanta in style as you race in either the 13.1 or 5K course. Finishers will receive a Halloween-themed medal.

Empower yourself or a special lady in your life by racing in the Divas Half Marathon and 5K, which takes you along a charming route through the tree-lined streets of Peachtree City. Racers will enjoy the "Diva stations," which will allow you to transform into a Diva with tiaras, feather boas and more. All participants will receive a t-shirt, colorful tutu and keepsake bag.

Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon, 5K, Mile and Dash. 7:30 a.m. Nov. 28. $10-$60 per racer, free for 50m Dash and children ages 14 and under. Georgia State Stadium. 755 Hank Aaron Drive SE, Atlanta. 404-231-9064. www.atlantatrackclub.org.

Burn off that Thanksgiving feast ahead of time with the Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon, 5K, Mile and Dash. This year's event will take place at the Georgia State Stadium and will include an exciting post-race celebration. Participants in the half marathon and 5K will receive a long-sleeve Mizuno t-shirt, and all finishers will receive a medal.
