Pair a legendary golf course with the top 30 PGA Tour pros in the world and once again history will be made Sept. 11-14, during the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola at East Lake Golf Club.

Tour Championship week is the one time each year when fans can roam the grounds of this classic course founded in 1908 and situated 5 miles east of downtown Atlanta.

“The golf course itself is just old style, one of our best courses we play,” said the 2011 Tour Championship winner, Bill Haas. “It’s all right there in front of you.”

While the annual season-ending championship will crown the FedExCup winner and award potentially over $11 million to one player, the fans who attend each year are the real winners because they can do more than just watch birdies and bogeys.

“We’ve got some new and exciting opportunities for our spectators and our fans,” said Tom Clark, executive director of the Tour Championship by Coca‑Cola. “Each year, we try to come up with a few new initiatives.”

Here is what fans can expect:

SO Cool Zone

New this year, the SO Cool Zone, courtesy of Southern Co., will be located between the 5th green and 7th tee. It will serve as an oasis for fans who want to sample food from Atlanta restaurants, catch a little shade, practice their putting or watch the live telecast on large video screens.

“Thanks to Southern Co., we’ll have Fox Bros. and Universal Joint, two restaurants providing specialty tastes for our spectators,” Clark added.

Yacht Rock Revue

Atlanta’s popular ’70s and ’80s rock party band Yacht Rock Revue will play a Saturday morning concert in the SO Cool Zone on Sept. 13, as players warm up from 9:05-10:15 a.m.

19th Holes

All week, both Grey Goose (near 13th hole) and Michelob Ultra (near 14th green) will have 19th Holes set up where you can relax and enjoy a drink in a comfortable setting.

“Freestyle” and “Share a Coke”

With Coca-Cola as a partner again this year, fans can once again try the high-tech touch-operated beverage dispenser that will offer thirsty golf fans more than 100 different Coke products.

This is also the last event where the “Share a Coke” tour will stop, allowing Coke drinkers to get their name printed on a can for themselves and a friend.

Parking

All parking for tournament week is free at Turner Field (there is no on-site parking). A free shuttle will be provided for transportation from Turner Field to East Lake Golf Club. There is no general parking at East Lake.

Cellphone policy

Fans can bring their cellphones into the tournament as part of the PGA Tour’s mobile device policy, but they must remain in “silent” mode. Calls can be made only from designated areas with no video recording anytime during the week and no still photography during tournament rounds.

Autographs

As in the past, the best place to get an autograph is directly behind the 18th green by the clubhouse as the players finish their practice or tournament rounds. Many golfers will walk the fence-line signing autographs on their way back to the clubhouse.

Children and military tickets

Youths 18 and younger are admitted free of charge this year when accompanied by a ticketed adult, courtesy of Southern Co. There is a limit of four children per ticketed adult.

All week, the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola will provide free admission for all active-duty and Reserve military members, military retirees, and their dependents with a military ID shown at the gate along with a military ticket voucher. Complimentary admittance also will be provided for non-retired veterans and one guest each per day. Military members must visit https://birdiesforthebrave.sheerid.com/TheTourChampionship/ for a voucher. The $1 verification fee will be donated to the East Lake Foundation.

Players with local college ties

Those looking for a Georgia vs. Georgia Tech showdown won’t have to wait until November. Former Georgia Tech golfers Matt Kuchar and Cameron Tringale, along with a host of Bulldogs in Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed, Chris Kirk, Russell Henley and Brendon Todd, all want to get their hands on the FedExCup.
