Elvis Night at the Gwinnett Gladiators
There’s no reason to be lonesome, at least on this particular night. Banish the blues by lacing up those blue suede shoes and heading to Gwinnett Arena, where the Gladiators are hosting a “hunka-hunka hockey” night dedicated to Elvis. Sorry, no peanut butter and banana sandwiches among the concessions, but there will be plenty of tributes to the King of Rock ’n’ Roll to leave you all shook up. Fans are encouraged to dress up like Elvis and cheer on the home team against the Elmira Jackals.

Marietta Chess Club Meet Up
Chess club isn’t just for high school students anymore. Anyone 16 and older who is addicted to the game of pawns and kings — or who wants to find out what it’s all about — is welcome to match wits against other players during an afternoon of fun. Membership is not required and players of various skill levels are welcome. There’s no charge to play, and it’s a good way to get involved with an organization that holds regular tournaments and meet-ups. This session will take place at Cool Beans Coffee, off Marietta Square.

Open Painting Day
Now that the holidays are over, you might have a few extra hours in your schedule to stretch those creative muscles. Or perhaps you’re looking for a new hobby to enjoy. Whatever the case, Paint 4 Play, a self-described “paint and party studio,” is the place to get started. Begin with a two-hour class in which instructors will show you ways to bring out your artistic talents. Pair the painting fun with a glass of wine, and the results are usually very creative. Participants may register as an individual or as part of a group.
