“Christmas Canteen”

Get into the holiday spirit even before the turkey is carved with a visit to Aurora Theatre’s “Christmas Canteen.” The performance has become a Gwinnett County holiday tradition of song and dance. And co-directors Anthony Rodriguez and Jen MacQueen have worked to make this year, the 21st season, one of the best yet, mixing theatrical numbers with a dash of sketch comedy, all with a seasonal spin.

Chili Cook-Off

Ward off any late-autumn chill with a hearty helping of chili — spiced with a special international flair — at this year’s Clarkston Community Center Chili Cook-Off. A ticket gets you a spoon, a raffle ticket, two beverages and a wide variety of chili styles to sample. Once you’ve had your fill, pick up some insider tips from Atlanta Silverbacks soccer players, and browse the crafts from area artists who bring their own global inspirations to their work. While you wait on the raffle, relax to the sounds of the Georgia State University Jazz Band or take in the dance performances of Zumba Forever.

International Games Day

Whether it’s cards or consoles, board games or Pokemon battles, Rubik’s cubes or giant Jenga, the Post Road Library has something for every age and experience level during its celebration of International Games Day. Start in the main meeting room with a round of life-sized Candyland, then dash over to the Hot Spot to show all the youngsters your classic Atari skills. Let the teens hang in their own space, where they can team up to solve puzzles within 30 minutes. Card sharks will find tournaments for Pokemon, Netrunner and Magic: the Gathering. Drop in anytime during the afternoon; no registration is required.
