ROSWELL

Garage sale extravaganza

Get ready treasure hunters. Wake up early, do your stretches, clear out the car’s trunk space — this is the big one. The Roswell United Methodist Church is hosting its annual Garage Sale Extravaganza loaded with books, jewelry, furniture, sports items, art, household goods and seemingly endless selections of men’s and women’s clothing. The sale is so big, it usually requires more than 200 volunteers to staff it. Not only will you discover a few deals, you’ll feel good knowing that all proceeds support RUMC’s job networking program that offers support and education to those facing employment challenges. Tip: Bring cash, ’cause if you’re paying by credit card, there’s a $2 service charge.

8 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 4; 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 5. Free entry. Roswell United Methodist Church, 814 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell. 770-993-6218, rumc.com/garagesale.

CARROLLTON

Everclear concert

You could hear their music on the radio, but nothing beats Everclear live in concert. Head west to Carrollton, where the Amp, the city’s outdoor music venue, is hosting Everclear and its catalogue that spans more than 25 years. The concert is free, so it won’t detract from your efforts to “buy a garden, a new car or a big house way up in the west hills.” And it’s “so much for the afterglow” (dusk, in this case) because the concert starts at 8 p.m., well before sunset. Arrive early with blankets, lawn chairs and picnic supplies to get a good spot and to avoid putting “yourself in stupid places.”

8 p.m. Aug. 5. Free. The Amp, 119 Bradley St., Carrollton. 770-832-6901, carrolltonmainstreet.com.

DECATUR

Life-size Monopoly

What’s your favorite Monopoly piece? The classic car? The top hat? The newly released T-Rex? What about yourself? Enter the game as your own board piece at the Scott Candler Library on Aug. 5. Bring along a few friends and try to pass go, buy up the railroads, build houses and avoid jail in this life-size version of the classic Parker Brothers game. Skip the community chest and take a chance on some fun. And since this is happening in Decatur, consider taking MARTA. The game board might be one of the last places around where you’ll find free parking.

2-3:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Free. Scott Candler Library, 1917 Candler Road, Decatur. 404-286-6986, dekalblibrary.org.
