Remember when your mother warned you not to get into food fights?

Well, this one might meet her approval.

The Georgia Society of CPAs, which includes the state's top accounting firms and accounting departments, will hold a friendly food and fund drive to help feed hungry Georgians.

The initiative supports the eight regional Georgia food banks that comprise the Georgia Food Bank Association, including the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Working through more than 2,600 partner agencies and pantries, they distribute more than 130 million pounds of food annually to 159 counties in Georgia.

In 2014, more than 50 firms in 17 cities competed in the first food fight, raising $97,254 and 9,861 pounds of food. The 2015 goal is $125,000 and 12,500 pounds of food.

The two-week competition begins on Aug. 17 and runs through Aug. 28. In September, the top contributors will win bragging rights.
