“Atlanta been running rap longer than any coast!! Say it ain't so,” Waka Flocka, whose given name is Juaquin James Malphurs, said in the screenshot.

Encouraging chatter among his followers, he added in the caption, “Let’s debate about this!”

Debate they did.

A few raised an eyebrow at Waka Flocka’s stance.

Several pointed out the longevity of New York’s rap game.

“Ny had it longer,” an Instagram user said in part.

One fan credited Atlanta for pioneering the trap subgenre of rap.

“Trap Rap yeaaaaa, rap in general? Nah,” one fan said on Instagram.

But some gave Atlanta its due.

“Atlanta runs everything,” one Instagram user commented.

Another said, “Right now and for the last 15 years or so atl for sure.....but New York’s run went from the 80’s into early 2000’s and that’s just facts bruh.”

While Atlanta has a long history of rap legends including OutKast, Ludacris, T.I. Killer Mike/Run The Jewels, as well as newer stars like Migos and Lil Nas X, Waka Flocka won’t be part of that musical line up for long.

The star admitted in 2018 that he’s ready to retire from rap.

"I don't want to rap, I did what I came to do," he told BET's Raq Rants in 2018. "I've already passed $30 million. Everybody I started with is rich. Everybody is happy. Everybody has kids. I don't have anything else to do. Everybody else who didn't make it, they died or got kids, my right-hand man who was running the streets with me is a pastor. Life changed for me."

In Jaurary, Waka Flocka said on Instagram that his final album is scheduled for release this year.

His last full-length studio album, “Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family,” was released in 2012. Last year, the reality TV star dropped two mixtapes, “Mollywood” and “Salute Me Or Shoot Me 6.”
