Singer Chris Brown is expected in court Monday and is in "intense" negotiations on a plea deal over his alleged beating of his girlfriend Rihanna, according to the New York Daily News.

The newspaper quotes a "source" saying Brown, 19, is expected to either plead not guilty to two felony counts stemming from the incident or ask to have the arraignment postponed again.

Brown wants to avoid any jail time and doesn't want to plead guilty to the felony criminal threats charge since it would be a "strike" on his record under California's Three Strikes law. That leaves the felony assault charge as the area of negotiation between defense lawyer Mark Geragos and prosecutors, the newspaper says.

Brown was charged with punching, choking and biting his 21-year-old girlfriend in the predawn hours before the Grammy Awards on Feb. 8. (See details of incident below) He's also accused of threatening to kill her.

"Since then, Rihanna and Brown have reunited on both coasts with some sources saying the Barbados-born beauty is not inclined to testify for the prosecution."

" 'She has no interest in testifying,' a source told the New York Daily News.' "
